Ben Cox competed in the 2022 BRSCC Formula Ford Festival, qualifying P19 for the rain-curtailed Grand Final.
Ben’s reflection on the race weekend:
Well now, wasn’t that a pretty supreme performance at the Formula Ford Festival 2022!
Thursday and Friday testing started in pouring rain resulting in a delayed start . Everything was getting flooded but eventually for the first time I’ve been able to give it a proper go in the wet and getting some wet weather running under my belt!
Saturday was pretty exciting, qualifying was brilliant. I was in P2 for a long time in the session before a red flag stopped qualifying. We made some tweaks to the car but just needed another a few more laps to maximise performance, so I dropped down the order to qualify P8 for the heat.
Heat 4 for me was defiantly one of my strongest showings in a race this year. I was stringing onto the back of the lead train full of National championship runners and ever so close to getting in the fight! Ended up finishing P7 just missing out on P6 by 0.5 seconds.
With a positive mindset we headed into the Semi final. Starting P13 I manage to slide my way round in the greasy but drying conditions to P9. It was a great fight which was a lovely to watch on the Sunday broadcast for anyone tuning in!
Onto the Grand Final, I managed to exceed my own expectations by getting a place inside the top 20 on the grid! Which ultimately was how it ended as we only had 2 racing laps before torrential rain called an early end to the race. It was a shame as I was looking forward to racing on to try and keep up my 100% top 10 finishing rate this year! Unfortunately it didn’t seem to be the case this time round though due to totally understandable circumstances and safest decision in the end.
Whilst the sun sets on that weekend it also draws a close to my 2022 racing season. I will follow up with a post soon reviewing my racing season as well as a little surprise for next year!
